AM5 socket — dead centre
The silkscreen beside it reads X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 · Socket AM5. It takes AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 Series processors, and because AM5 kept the AM4 cooler mounting pattern, most existing AM4 coolers bolt straight on.
Digital twin 16+2+2 phase VRM under the AORUS heatsink — top and left
The tall finned block carrying the illuminated AORUS logo covers a twin 16+2+2 phase power stage. This is the headroom a Ryzen 9 needs when all cores boost at once — and the reason this board sits a tier above the Elite-class B650 boards.
4 × DDR5 DIMM slots — right edge
Dual-channel DDR5 across four slots, silkscreened DDR5_A1 / A2 / B1 / B2, with AMD EXPO profile support so a rated kit applies its timings from one BIOS toggle.
2-digit debug display and power buttons — top right
A two-digit POST code readout sits beside onboard POWER and RESET buttons. On a bench build that means you can boot and diagnose the board outside a case, with a numeric code instead of guesswork.
PCIe 5.0 x16 with EZ-Latch Plus — below the socket
The reinforced primary graphics slot uses PCIe EZ-Latch Plus: a quick-release catch you press once to free the card, instead of fishing a finger behind a triple-fan cooler.
4 × M.2 sockets under the AORUS shroud — centre and lower right
Four M.2 drives fit, three of them PCIe 5.0 x4. The broad AORUS-branded plate is the EZ-Latch Click heatsink assembly — the covers release without a screwdriver, and no screws means none to drop onto the board.
4 × SATA 6 Gb/s and USB headers — right and bottom edges
Four SATA ports sit on the right edge. Along the bottom run F_USB 20 Gb/s Type-C, two USB 2.0 headers, ESPI_DB, SPI_TPM, front panel audio and three system fan headers.
Front HDMI and ARGB headers — right and bottom edges
An F_HDMI header supports front-panel or VR display passthrough, and addressable ARGB_V2 headers along the bottom edge drive case lighting in sync with the AORUS logo.

Power Delivery & Thermals
What feeds the socket, and what keeps it steadyDigital twin 16+2+2 phase VRM
Sixteen doubled phases for the CPU core plus dedicated stages for the SoC and the memory controller. A Ryzen 9 with all cores boosting is a sustained load, and this is the power stage that holds the clock instead of dropping it.
AORUS thermal armour
The tall finned heatsink over the power stage, and the wide plate across the chipset and M.2 area, exist because PCIe 5.0 NVMe drives run hot. Cooling them is what keeps a Gen5 drive at its rated speed instead of throttling mid-transfer.
Q-Flash Plus
The rear panel has a dedicated Q-FLASH PLUS button. It updates the BIOS from a USB stick with no CPU, no memory and no graphics card fitted — the safety net when you pair the board with a Ryzen newer than its shipped firmware.
Screwless EZ-Latch throughout
EZ-Latch Plus releases the graphics card with one press, EZ-Latch Click opens the M.2 heatsinks without a screwdriver, and WIFI EZ-Plug seats the aerial without threading a tiny connector. Fewer screws over a live board is fewer chances to drop one.
