Gigabyte Z790 D AX — the unlocked Z790 board with Wi-Fi 6E, three M.2 sockets and Q-Flash Plus

A full-size ATX board on the Intel Z790 chipset — the tier that actually lets you overclock a K-series processor. It carries a Twin 12+1+1 phase digital VRM under Ultra Durable heatsinks, four DDR5 slots reaching DDR5-7600 (O.C.), three PCIe 4.0 M.2 sockets, a PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics slot, and both Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet.

1

LGA 1700 CPU socket — dead centre

The silkscreen beside the socket reads "Supports Intel Core Socket 1700". 12th, 13th and 14th Gen Intel Core processors drop straight in, and because this is a Z-series chipset the K-series parts are unlocked for overclocking.

2

Twin 12+1+1 phase VRM under Ultra Durable heatsinks — top and left

Large finned heatsink blocks branded ULTRA DURABLE cover the power stage along the top and left edges. That mass is what a 14th Gen i7 or i9 needs when every core is loaded — this is the part an entry board simply does not have.

3

4 × DDR5 DIMM slots — right edge

Four-slot dual-channel DDR5 up to 256 GB, running JEDEC 4800/4400 and reaching DDR5-7600 by overclocking on 13th and 14th Gen Core i7 and i9 processors.

4

PCIe 5.0 x16 — the long white slot

The reinforced white slot is the PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics socket, anchored to carry a heavy modern card. Below it sit four more expansion slots, silkscreened PCIEX1_1, PCIEX1_2 and PCIEX4.

5

3 × M.2 PCIe 4.0 sockets — one under the top heatsink, two beside the chipset

The first socket (M2A_CPU) runs under the long finned bar above the graphics slot. Two more sit to the right of the expansion slots. All three are PCIe 4.0 x4, so three NVMe drives run at full Gen4 speed.

6

4 × SATA 6 Gb/s — right edge

Four right-angled SATA ports on the board edge for hard drives and 2.5-inch SSDs, with cables exiting cleanly toward the drive cage.

7

Q-Flash Plus button — bottom edge

Silkscreened Q-FLASH_PLUS. It flashes a new BIOS from a USB stick with no CPU, no memory and no graphics card installed — the difference between a five-minute fix and a dead board when you pair it with a CPU newer than the shipped firmware.

8

Front headers, TPM and RGB — bottom edge

The bottom edge carries F_AUDIO, two USB 2.0 headers, a serial COM header, the SPI_TPM connector for Windows 11, D_LED1 and LED_C1 lighting headers, Clear CMOS and the front panel block.

Power Delivery & Thermals

What feeds the socket, and what keeps it steady
Twin 12+1+1Digital VRM phases

CPU 12VDedicated CPU power
Q-Flash PlusBIOS flash with no CPU

Twin 12+1+1 phase digital VRM

A doubled twelve-phase Vcore design with dedicated phases for the memory controller and the integrated graphics. This is the reason a Z790 board can hold a 14th Gen i9 at full boost where a B760 or H610 board would throttle back.

Ultra Durable VRM heatsinks

Large finned blocks cover the power stage on the top and left edges. On an overclocking board the VRM temperature, not the CPU temperature, is often what ends the run — so the metal here directly buys you stability.

Q-Flash Plus

A dedicated button flashes the BIOS from a USB stick with no CPU, no RAM and no GPU fitted. If you buy a processor newer than the shipped firmware, this turns a potential dead build into a five-minute update.

Wi-Fi 6E plus 2.5 GbE

Both radios are on board: Wi-Fi 6E reaching the clean 6 GHz band through the two rear antenna connectors, and a wired 2.5 Gigabit port for when latency matters more than convenience.

Will It Fit Your Build?

Check these before you add to cart

Processor

Any 12th, 13th or 14th Gen Intel Core on LGA 1700 — and unlike B760 or H610, the K-series parts are unlocked here.

Overclocking

Z790 supports CPU multiplier overclocking, backed by a Twin 12+1+1 phase VRM under Ultra Durable heatsinks.

Memory

DDR5 only — 4 slots, up to 256 GB, DDR5-7600 by overclocking on 13th/14th Gen i7 and i9.

Storage

3 × M.2 PCIe 4.0 plus 4 × SATA 6 Gb/s — room for three NVMe drives without touching the SATA ports.

Networking

Both Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet on board. No add-in card needed either way.

Case

Full-size ATX board — needs a Mid-Tower or Full-Tower ATX chassis, not a Micro-ATX case.

First boot safety

Q-Flash Plus updates the BIOS with no CPU or memory fitted, so a processor newer than the shipped firmware is never a dead end.

!

Plan your cooling

A Z790 board only pays off with a CPU worth overclocking, and those draw real power. Budget for a substantial tower air cooler or a 240 mm-plus AIO.

Build Q&A

The questions builders actually ask about this board
Can I overclock a K-series CPU on this board?+
Yes — that is the point of the Z790 chipset. B760 and H610 boards lock the CPU multiplier; Z790 does not. The Twin 12+1+1 phase VRM under Ultra Durable heatsinks is what holds the overclock steady once every core is loaded.
What does Q-Flash Plus save me from?+
A dead first boot. If the board ships with firmware older than your processor, it will not POST — and normally you would need a supported CPU just to update the BIOS. Q-Flash Plus flashes from a USB stick with no CPU, no RAM and no graphics card fitted.
How many NVMe drives can I install?+
Three, all at PCIe 4.0 x4. One sits under the heatsink bar above the graphics slot, two more beside the chipset. All four SATA ports stay free on top of that.
Does it have Wi-Fi built in?+
Yes — Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), which adds the uncrowded 6 GHz band on top of 2.4 and 5 GHz. The two gold connectors on the rear panel are for the bundled antenna. There is also a wired 2.5 Gigabit port.
Will DDR5-7600 memory actually run at that speed?+
The 7600 figure is an overclock, validated on 13th and 14th Gen Core i7 and i9 processors. Out of the box the board runs the JEDEC 4800/4400 profile; you enable the rated XMP profile in BIOS to go higher, and results depend on your specific CPU's memory controller.
Is this board too big for my case?+
It is a full-size ATX board, larger than the Micro-ATX boards in the same price range. It needs a Mid-Tower or Full-Tower ATX chassis — check your case specification before ordering.
Which slot should my graphics card go in?+
The long reinforced white slot at the top — that is the PCIe 5.0 x16 socket wired directly to the CPU. The black slots below it run at lower widths from the chipset and are meant for capture, sound and network cards.
Does it support Windows 11 out of the box?+
Yes. There is a dedicated SPI_TPM header on the bottom edge, and Intel's firmware TPM covers the Windows 11 security requirement on 12th Gen and newer processors.
Does AHW Store update the BIOS before shipping?+
Every motherboard ships sealed in its original retail packaging with the factory BIOS. Our engineers can flash the latest vendor BIOS free of charge on request when you order a CPU with the board, which guarantees first-boot compatibility with the newest supported CPU generation.
What warranty coverage is included?+

How fast is shipping across Egypt?+
Orders are delivered within 2 to 7 business days across all Egyptian governorates, packed in anti-static shielding with shock-protected outer packaging (with pickup available from our 6th of October headquarters). See our Shipping Policy ↗.
Can AHW Store build the complete PC around this motherboard?+
