The RTX 5080 GAMING OC, Up Close

Aerodynamics · Fans

Three Hawk Fans With Alternate Spinning

The front carries the three Hawk fans of GIGABYTE's WINDFORCE cooling system. They use alternate spinning, so neighbouring fans turn in opposite directions to cut turbulence between them, and GIGABYTE's 3D active fan design stops them at idle: TechPowerUp measured fan stop on the desktop. The glowing rings are the RGB Halo lighting, which you can set or sync with other devices in GIGABYTE CONTROL CENTER.

Vapor Chamber, Copper Heat Pipes and Thermal Gel

From the side you can see the depth of the fin stack and the copper heat pipes running through it. GIGABYTE pairs a large vapor chamber with composite copper heat pipes and server-grade thermal conductive gel. In TechPowerUp's gaming test the card held 64 °C on the GPU and 66 °C on the memory at 38.4 dBA in its default Performance BIOS. The single 16-pin power connector sits on the top edge.

Structure · Backplate

Reinforced Metal Backplate With Screen Cooling

The back is covered by a reinforced metal backplate with a bent edge that is fastened to the I/O bracket, which GIGABYTE uses to stiffen the card against flex. At the far end the backplate opens up over the fins: this is screen cooling, where air from the last fan passes straight through the heatsink and out of the back instead of being trapped under the card.

Connectivity · I/O

3x DisplayPort 2.1b and 1x HDMI 2.1b

The vented bracket carries three DisplayPort 2.1b outputs and one HDMI 2.1b. You can run up to four displays at once, and GIGABYTE lists a maximum digital resolution of 7680 × 4320, so the card can drive high-refresh 4K gaming monitors, ultrawides or a multi-screen workstation.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

HARDWAREWhat power supply do I need for the RTX 5080 GAMING OC?
GIGABYTE recommends an 850 W power supply. The card uses one 16-pin connector; a PSU with a native 12V-2x6 cable is the cleanest option, and GIGABYTE includes a 12V-2x6 to 3x PCIe 8-pin adapter for PSUs without one. Use three separate 8-pin cables from the PSU with the adapter.
HARDWAREWill it fit in my case?
The card measures 340 mm long, 140 mm tall and 70 mm thick. Check your case's maximum GPU length (with front fans or a radiator fitted) and allow for a card about 70 mm thick, which covers more than three expansion slots. The included Versatile VGA holder supports the card so it does not sag.
HARDWAREWhat does the Dual BIOS switch do?
The card ships in Performance mode. Switching to Silent lowers fan speed: TechPowerUp measured 38.4 dBA at 64 °C in Performance mode and 31.6 dBA at 66 °C in Silent mode while gaming, so the quieter BIOS costs only a couple of degrees.
HARDWAREHow fast is it at 1440p and 4K?
In TechPowerUp's Cyberpunk 2077 test scene at the highest settings, this card averaged 152.0 FPS at 1440p and 75.0 FPS at 4K, about 6% ahead of NVIDIA's RTX 5080 Founders Edition (70.9 FPS at 4K) thanks to its factory overclock. Those results are native rendering; DLSS upscaling and frame generation raise frame rates further in supported games.
HARDWAREIs 16 GB of GDDR7 enough?
The 16 GB of GDDR7 runs at 30 Gbps on a 256-bit bus, which works out to 960 GB/s of bandwidth. That is plenty for 4K gaming with ray tracing, and it gives creators room for large 3D scenes, video timelines and local AI models.
